A Halal Dining Revolution

Halal dining has evolved. Today, Muslims living in large metropolitan areas have an array of quality halal dining options to choose from.  More and more halal restaurants are popping up everywhere you look. But it wasn't always this way...

My dad tells me stories about when he came to the U.S. in the 70s, having to buy LIVE chickens and slaughter them himself so that him and his friends could have halal meat.  Imagine having to do that today?

But even when I was growing up during the 90s, eating out generally fell into only two categories - Pakistani/Indian food or Middle Eastern Food. I don't really recall going out to eat halal burgers or chicken nuggets as a kid. The only time I'd get a hamburger was if my mom made them. And the Pakistani/Indian community will understand when I say those were some SPICY burgers. I remember having one of my Non-Muslim friends over for a bbq one time, and he nearly passed out after taking one bite of mama's special burgers!

Halal dining has evolved. I can easily go out today and get a halal burger, or cheese steak, or Chinese food. And when I'm in the mood, I can still get Indo-Pak or Middle Eastern food as well.  Not only do Muslims in the U.S. have more options, we have better options. The quality of the food and service has improved. Muslim restaurant owners are getting more creative with their menus, themes, and decors. And the advent of zabihah.com has taken halal dining to another level in the 21st century.

Halal Foodies like my self are truly grateful for these innovative, ambitious, creative, restauranteurs. Yes, there has been an evolution in halal dining. Today, with the help of my wife, I'm starting this blog and with it A Halal Dining Revolution.  I want to share our adventures in the world of halal food, and I want other halal foodies to share theirs. I want to share thoughts, experiences and connect with Halal Foodies that are passionate about food. If you're a Halal Foodie this blog will provide you with detailed reviews of not only well known halal establishments, but also undiscovered halal dining gems, grocery staples, and even halal alternatives such as exceptional seafood and vegetarian options.

Let's work together to fuel this Halal Dining Revolution!
